Neena Gupta is a popular actress and television director, fondly remembered for the 80’s TV show Buniyaad, as the director and lead character of Saans in the 90s, and for Ladies Special and Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin in 2000s. For her film Badhai Ho, she won the 2018 Screen Awards for Best Actress (Critics). Gupta has made appearances in international films, such as Gandhi (1982), in which she played the niece of Mahatma Gandhi, and the Merchant Ivory Production’s The Deceivers (1988). She also ran a theater production company, and acted and produced a Hindi play, Soorya Ki Antim Kiran Se Soorya Ki Paheli Kiran Tak.
Neena won the National Film Award in 1994 for Best Supporting Actress for Woh Chokri and the National Film Award in 1994 for Best First Non-Feature Film of a Director for Bazar Sitaram.
